HEREFORD, TX – FirstBank Southwest (FBSW) announces the retirement of Mike Schueler, Hereford Market President, effective March 1, 2024. After 25 years of dedicated service, Mr. Schueler calculates that he has directly loaned well over $1 billion for cattle purchases in his career. He will be leaving behind a remarkable legacy of leadership, innovation, and community engagement.

Mike has served on the planning committees for the TTU Annual Ag Credit Conference and the Texas Bankers Association Annual Agricultural & Rural Affairs Conference. He has volunteered with numerous organizations. Those for whom he has chaired the board include Hereford & Vicinity YMCA, Hereford Economic Development Corporation, Ceta Canyon Camp & Retreat Center, Panhandle Plains Higher Education Authority Inc, Deaf Smith County Hospital District, and Hereford Country Club. Highlights of his role as board chair of these organizations include the elimination of over $1 million of debt at Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center and the turnaround into a financially healthy organization. Additionally, he oversaw the turnaround of the reputation and financial condition of the Deaf Smith County Hospital District. For his efforts, Mike received the 2023 Texas Healthcare Trustees Founders Award.

In 2011, Mike was recognized as the Deaf Smith County Distinguished 4-H Leader for his many years of volunteering. Mike has been a member of Hereford Lion’s Club and involved with First Presbyterian Church of Hereford and First Methodist Church Hereford. Other organizations that involved a role as board/committee member include Hereford Planning & Zoning Committee, Amarillo College Hereford Campus Founding Committee and Advisory Board, Deaf Smith County Extension Service Leadership Advisory Board, Deaf Smith County Appraisal District Ag Advisory Committee and Deaf Smith County 4-H Parents Association.

During his tenure, Mr. Schueler played a pivotal role in cultivating strong relationships with customers, local businesses, and community organizations. His unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and his passion for supporting the community have been instrumental in the bank’s success.

After retiring, Mike and his wife, Amy, will settle in Amarillo, where they intend to travel and relish time with their children and pursue their hobbies. Mike will maintain his role as a board member at FirstBank Southwest.
